Istanbul
Our journey took west through Turkey taking the most direct route to Istanbul. This meant 3 days travelling through the northern half of Turkey, a route that brought us down from the plateau leading from Iran and over some some high passes up into the snowline and down to the central plains of Turkey. We spent 3 long days sat on Tara until finally reaching Istanbul. This city is a real milestone for us and we feel a real sense of achievement having come this far. What has really been apparent on our journey so far is that people all along the way have wanted to help in any way they can once they found out what we’re trying to achieve. I couldn’t thank people enough for that.
Istanbul has been a great place to relax for a couple of days. We found a hotel overlooking the Bhosphorus Straits … loads happening here and of course this is where Europe begins for us. Celebrated with a couple of beers down on the water front.

Well done for getting this far. The rest should be plain sailing. Just have to avoid the ‘Brits on holiday’ now.
Everybody (well almost) here is having babies. Sped & Nicola had a baby girl Emily last week & Dave & Sharon have just had a baby girl yesterday ( no name as yet). So much wetting of the babies head to be had!

havnt been able to catch up on your movements lately as foresthill computer has crashed. bit like the crew really. exellent pictures , i like the police safety boots their wearing. your bikes chrome work is still shiny. we have just released last vintage chardonnay, taste like $#% . nothing wrong with chickpeas helen makes a moroccan lamb which is supposed to have chick peas in but i always eat them before she has a chance to use them, i say well why dont you by double the amount then you wont run out instead of yelling at me.

You’ve travelled so far. It’s really good to read your blog. I wasn’t sure if you were picking up your emails, so thought I would post a comment on here. Looking forward to seeing you soon. I presume you are on Schedule? I’m trying to arange a talk for you on with either the 10th or 11th June. I was leaving it as late as possible so that I had an idea of when you would be in the UK. Does that sound good to you?
Anyway…….really looking forward to catching up with you and hearing all your stories. Hope your botts are not sore fropm the saddle.

Welcome back to Europe, what a fantastic achievement, saw your dad the other day, didnt seem too bovered re Carlisle’s failure to beat leeds, ah well theres always next year, was looking forward to a short trip up the M6 to cheer on the mighty Redz,
