Welcome to the Sarimilla Trust

Our focus in Nepal is to provide Education and Training to enable communities create a better future for children and adults alike. Our role is to provide finance and the technical assistance needed to bring about positive changes that raise the standard of living of the whole community. We achieve this through –

  • School Sponsorship
  • School Building Programmes
  • Sustainable Farming Programmes
  • Technical Training Assistance

The Trust was officially formed in 2001 in the UK and began by sponsoring five children to attend school. Two of the founding members, Steve and Elizabeth, had decided to try and help children in rural areas after they had spent time working in a soup kitchen in Kathmandu in 2000. Most of the people the soup kitchen was helping  were from rural areas, they had come to the city to try to find work during the lean winter months. A vast majority of these job seekers can often find themselves living on the streets of Kathmandu with their families with little prospect of work.

Steve his wife Dawn and Elizabeth registered the Sarimilla Trust with Charities Commission of England & Wales ( reg no 1094218 ). The Trust is named after Sarimilla, a young girl Steve met in Kathmandu in 1997 whilst working as a volunteer on a rural project in Nepal ( click on Beginnings for her story ).

Rajani had helped Steve with Nepalese language on his first visit to Nepal in 1994. She now lives in the US and helps with language and culture and organises sponsorship and fundraising for the Trust.
